General

What is the difference between AC and DC charging stations?

AC charging stations (conventional) require a standard 230 – 400 volt connection similar to other household appliances such as ovens or washing machines. Charging capacity ranges from 3.7 kW to 22 kW based on the input and hardware specifications of the station. The installation of DC (fast) charging stations is more extensive and requires specific equipment. Both AC and DC charging stations must be installed by a qualified and certified electrician.

What is the cost of installing charging stations?

The cost of installing a charging station depends on many factors, including:

  • Travel and lessons technique
  • Required components
  • Physical position distribution
  • Location and capacity of the electrical panel
  • Installation type – AC or DC (check here for the difference between AC and DC charging stations)
  • Number of charging stations
  • Whether structural engineering and cabling is required.
  • All Sminn plumbers will do a site survey of the installation location. They will also complete a commissioning report, which you must sign to ensure that your charging station is working safely and optimally. Remember to keep your commissioning report for future reference.

    What does smart charging mean?

Smart EV charging is a flexible charging technology that enables dynamic power management, grid stabilization and cost reduction by harnessing green energy. It does this by dynamically adjusting the time and speed of electric vehicle charging based on available energy capacity – safely balancing the charging station’s energy consumption with other on-site equipment.

Is it possible to charge without paying?

Yes, as long as the operator activates the “Autostart” function. This feature makes it easy to connect and charge your vehicle without the need for a card or mobile app. Configure the auto-start using the SminnDrive app.

Are Sminn chargers compatible with all electric cars?

Sminn charging stations are compatible with all electric vehicles. Just like regular power sockets, charging stations can have different sockets and connectors depending on the country you are charging in and the brand of your car. Fortunately, to make it less complicated, automakers have now limited it to two types of sockets: the Type 1 socket common to Japanese and American vehicles, and the Type 2 socket is common to European vehicles.

    Smart Charging

    Which products support smart charging?

Sminn – Smart charging is currently supported with the SminnBox, StandBox and FastBox series.

    What does smart charging mean?

Smart EV charging is a flexible charging technology that enables dynamic power management, grid stabilization and cost reduction by harnessing green energy. It does this by dynamically adjusting the time and speed of electric vehicle charging based on available power capacity – safely balancing the charging station’s power consumption with other on-site equipment.

What is meant by energy sharing?

Energy sharing, sometimes referred to as load balancing or balancing, allows grid operators or businesses with multiple on-site chargers to distribute available energy capacity proportionally to all active EV charging stations. As the available power is limited at each location, more power demand would normally mean costly upgrades to the electricity infrastructure. Smart charging means that energy can be optimally distributed to avoid such improvements.

What does the term Power Boost mean?

This is a smart charging feature that prevents you from exceeding the maximum energy capacity of your home, business. Reaching or exceeding your maximum energy capacity is not a good idea. This may mean that your energy provider will charge you extra for using more electricity than planned, especially if you use energy-intensive equipment later in the month. The Power Boost feature helps you prevent this by dynamically balancing the load between the charger and other devices in the house. When it looks like you’re reaching maximum capacity, the intelligent charge management system will automatically reduce how much energy your car is using. It can even suspend charging completely until sufficient power is available again. This way you will never exceed your energy limit.

    Installation

What does the installation cost consist of?

The cost of installing a charging station depends on many factors, including:

    • Travel and lessons technique
    • Required components
    • Physical layout and position
    • Installation type – AC or DC (check here for the difference between AC and DC charging stations)
    • Number of charging stations
    • Whether structural engineering and cabling is required
Is it possible to use charging stations without internet?

Yes, but with limited functionality. The charging station cannot be used and monitored remotely. It is also not possible to activate the HOST mode for public operation with charging for the charging service. More suitable in home charging station conditions.

What if it is not possible to bring the internet by cable?

In this case, a module for connection via mobile internet can be used. Just use a SIM with a data package as it is with mobile phones.

How long does it take to install?

It all depends on the pre-preparation and the scope of the installation. When it comes to installing 1-2 charging stations on pre-prepared wiring, it doesn’t take more than a day.

Yes, our company also specializes in HV and LV connections, including transformer stations and the necessary documentation. As far as landscaping is concerned, we have our own construction machines for smaller scale works.
